Luis Angel Mate (Cofidis), most aggressive rider: “(Matej) Mohoric was the strongest and, above all, the smartest. When you have such a big breakaway, the one who goes first always goes a second time. And then he showed he was the strongest, because he's done a spectacular descent. With (Anthony) Perez, we've worked well together. I didn't know if I should wait for him after his puncture or chase… And then, honestly, the last part of the climb was just too hard for me.”

  • Mohoric displays his talent

Matej Mohoric, a former Junior and U23 World champion, snatched his first Grand Tour victory at the end of stage 7 of La Vuelta 2017, on Friday. The Slovenian rider attacked from the gun and then dominated his breakaway companions for a brilliant solo win at Cuenca. He's the first rider from his country to win at La Vuelta since Borut Bozic in 2009. The crosswinds and a tricky final didn't prevent Chris Froome (Team Sky) from retaining the red jersey one more day.
