We will be starting out on the triple Cantabrian mountain stage. The first stage, from Burgos to Peña Cabardo will be a good one for the teams seeking a place on the podium in Madrid to try their hand. La Vuelta has come to Peña Cabarga only once, which was in 1979 when Ángel López del Alamo threw up his arms in victory for the first time ever here at this mountain pass.
This stage will include four mountain passes: one cat 3, two cat 2’s and the cat 1 pass topping off the stage with an average 10% gradient. The course will be quite demanding for those making it to this third weekend of competition.
