Granada - Jaén (167 km)

The first mountain pass of the 63rd Vuelta edition, LAS ENCEBRAS third category mountain pass, is located in km 45.600 of the 167 km long second stage.

Once in Jaen, riders have to go wice round a 26 km long urban circuit and first to complete the third lap wins. The fairly hard circuit that encloses a couple of ramps nears the end that riders must take into account and can lead to small differences at the finishing line.

Since 1991, Jaen had not been selected as a stage end in Spain’s Vuelta, but, since then, a stage has ended three times at the Pandera Mountain Range Summit.

The last time the riders arrived in Jaen streets, the Spanish racer, Jesus Cruz Martin of the Wigarma Team was first at the stage finishing line. The last one to wear the Leader’s Jersey at the Jaen podium was Melcior Mauri, who finally won the 46th edition of Spain’s Vuelta, after leading it from the third stage on.
