The last stage of this edition of La Vuelta will end in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Opposite the president´s box, Cycling will also take part in the centenary of Real Madrid. Inside the white stadium, the riders will round off their adventure with an 41.2 kilometre-long individual time trial. This will be a day when the best positions will be decided and when every single rider will be the protagonist.

The race will cross San Martín de la Vega and Perales del Río and then, once in Madrid, they will ride along Avenida de Andalucía to reach Glorieta de Cádiz and Plaza de Legázpi. Neptuno, Cibeles and Colón will be the silent witnesses of this fantastic show. In 2000, it was Santos González the one who won the last 38-kilometre-long time trial with a time of 45:26. Angel Casero arrived 6 seconds after him, Abraham Olano was third, 1:01 behind the winner and Oscar Sevilla reached the finish line 3 minutes later.

In last year edition, the winner of the last time trial was the Colombian rider Santiago Botero who used 45 minutes and 33 seconds to cover the 38 kilometres along the streets of Madrid at an average speed of 50 kilometres per hour. The American rider Levi Leipheimer lost only 14 seconds achieving, in that way, the third position overall. Angel Luis Casero was the fourth best rider in this time trial losing just 45 seconds and winning Vuelta a España 2001.

The young rider Oscar Sevilla got the 9th position in the time trial losing 1:57 and giving his Gold Jersey to Angel Casero and stepping on the second position of the podium placed in front of Puerta de Alcalá.
