The people from Alcoi and even from all over the Comunidad
Valencia poured onto the streets when the riders crossed their streets and
the tops of Aitana. This second stage finishes in Aitana once again after
144.7 kilometres.
La Vuelta had Alcoi as departure and arrival city for the last time in 1979. That year Levavasseur was the winner. In 2001 Alcoi was a kind of launch pad towards Aitana. This year, the riders will meet Alto del Portillol, a first category climb (770 metres high), 77 kilometres from the start. Concentaina and Alcoi will be final reference points, as the route finishes that day with a spectacular circuit along the climb to El Revolcat. The teams will have to try their best if they want to have their sprinters among the favourite group. |
